Kipsoen Vocational Training College has established itself as a Centre of excellence in mechatronics engineering.
At Kipsoen TVC, we believe that Technical education and training are integral part of productive employment and important tool for economic growth and development for any country. Educationists consider the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as an aspect of the educational process.
In 2013 the government of Kenya decided to revamp its TVET sector by investing heavily on their infrastructure as well as introducing a fee capitation that has enable more students to enroll for TVET related course.
In order to reduce congestion and facilitate better environment, the government through the constituency development fund, they constructed more than 200 new technical and vocational training colleges across the country.
Among them was Kipsoen Technical and Vocational College (KTVC). located in Elgeyo-Marakwet County, KTVC was established with the core objective of training students, to not only acquire skills for employment but also acquire hands-on-skills leading to self-employment.
“ Kipsoen Technical and Vocational College (KTVC) opened its doors to the first students in September 2019 and since then, the college has continued to grow, in terms of courses and student enrollment. It is among the leading colleges offering mechatronics engineering and other courses in the country. We are equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment for excellent training for our learners,”says Mr Eric Tanui,Principal.
African Union Agenda 2063 seeks to transform the continent into a middle-income economy and the need for a skilled workforce becomes even more necessary for the realization of this dream.
It’s no doubt the continent’s needs a of skilled labor force to construct and maintain roads, buildings, railways, and bridges.
Tanui opines that, “Training individuals to be technically skilled mechanics, engineers, shoemakers, and garment makers, among other professions increases a country’s competitiveness globally. Individuals who acquire TVET training in jewelry making, auto and refrigerator repairs, electronic repairs, often set up their own businesses, and this boost the economy,”
Currently the institution has 400 students and 32 tutors. According to the deputy principal Eng. Samuel Lagat, KTVC has two state of the art mechatronics workshops, eight classrooms, one lecture hall and a fully equipped library plus two computer rooms.
“Our two mechatronics are fully equipped with mechatronics machines which has enabled our students acquire industry based skills that will enable them acquire employment as well as ventured into self-employment.” Having reached a student population of 400 with two years, Kipsoen certainly have a bright future as the enrolment in likely to grow in leaps and bounds.
