Government Announces Scholarships for Degree Courses.


The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced scholarships opportunity for Kenyans to study various degree programs abroad.

In a notice, the ministry has indicated that 200 Kenyans have the chance to grab the opportunity to study abroad for the academic year 2024/2025.

This has been made possible by scholarships offered by the Government of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

“The Government of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria is offering Two Hundred (200) undergraduate scholarship opportunities for Kenyan students for the academic year 2024/2025,” the announcement from the Ministry of Education read in part

Courses Offered Under Scholarships

Under the scholarship, students will have the opportunity to study Arabic literature and foreign languages, which has been given 5 scholarship slots.

Additionally, Communication science course has been given 2 slots, Social Sciences will get 25 slots, Medicine will get 8 slots while Pharmacy will get 5 slots.

Also, courses in Nature and Life Science will get 10 slots, Electronic- Mechanic process Engineering-Civil Engineering will get 15 slots, Earth and Universe Science will get 20 slots, Material Science will get 10 slots and Geology, Geophysics and Management of Urban will get 10 slots.

On the other hand, the Algerian government has set aside 10 opportunities each for students who want to study a course in Hydraulic Science, Hydrocarbon Science, Nutritional Science, Public Work, Computer Science (University), Artificial intelligence, Mathematics (University), Mathematics (Government School), Sport Sciences) and 5 slots for Veterinary Science cours

Requirements Ministry of Education Scholarships 

According to the ministry o education, applicants ought to have a minimum KCSE mean grade of B plain and must be 25 years and below.

Moreover, they should have completed school in the last 3 years, have their original KCSE certificate, and a copy of birth certificate or National Identity Card (ID).

Also, application will require interested persons to submit a copy of their passport, four (04) recent passport photos and a medical certificate that attests to the absence of infectious and or contagious diseases.

“In case the passport is not yet ready, the applicant has to enclose a copy of the payment receipt for the passport application pending the submission,” explains the notice.

In addition, applicants will require a copy and legalized translation (French or Arabic) of the High school certificate.

Fees and Benefits 

Further, the ministry of education revealed that the scholarships are partly sponsored.

This means that applicants will be required to pay inscription fees.

“The student has only to pay a very symbolic fee that is also applied to the Algerian students.”

However, accommodation will be at the university residences, meals are offered at the university restaurants and university bus transportation is also offered.

Successful candidates will also get access to the public health system on the same modalities, which are applied to the Algerian citizens, a quarterly allowance and one year language training kin French or in Arabic.

Interested applicants should download Standard Scholarship Application Form from the Ministry’s website at www.education.go.ke fill and submit it with the above listed documents.

Deadline for submission is August 9, 2024, at 5:00 PM.
