Education Ministry to Hire 1000 Intern ECD Teachers


Early childhood education graduates without employment are encouraged to apply for internship positions with the Ministry of Education.

The State Department for Early Learning and Basic Education has 1000 openings under the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP), according to Public Service Commission Chief Executive Simon Rotich on Tuesday.

“Successful candidates will be appointed and deployed to schools. In addition to gaining knowledge and practical skills, the interns will be a crucial support for the DLP,” stated Rotich.

The successful candidates will be hired on a 12-month contract.

According to Rotich, the State Department will pay the interns a stipend, at a rate as set by the Public Service Commission.

“At the end of the 12-month internship term, successful applicants would get credentials.” He added

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in education with an emphasis on information communication technology and must have graduated not earlier than 2018. (ICT).

A bachelor’s degree in ICT, a diploma in ICT, or certification in ICT integration in education are also acceptable qualifications.

As well as having understanding of networking and infrastructure, information security, application development, and project management.

Additionally, they must be able to interface with education in terms of content creation and e-learning.

According to Rotich, the deadline for applications is August 9, 2022, and they must all be submitted online at www.publicservice.go.ke or www.psckjobs.go.ke.

As part of its attempts to address the nation’s current teacher shortage, the government has recruited intern teachers.

According to the Teachers Service Commission’s 2021 Annual Report, there are now 99,213 fewer teachers working in primary and secondary schools of which 44,134 deficit are teachers are required in elementary schools.

To address the teacher shortage, the government gave TSC authority to hire 5,000 instructors annually under the Medium-Term Plan III of the Vision 2030.
