Tuesday, April 7, 2026 — The clock is ticking. You have exactly four weeks.
If you sat the 2025 KCSE, today is one of the most important days of your academic life. The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service has officially flung open the doors to the 2026/2027 university placement cycle — and the window closes faster than you think.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced the launch after receiving a briefing from KUCCPS, led by Board Chair Cyrus Gituai and CEO Agnes Wahome. “The placement cycle has officially opened today, with the KUCCPS placement portal remaining open until May 6, 2026,” he confirmed. Kenyans.co.ke You have four weeks. Not a day more.
Who Can Apply?
Eligible applicants with a minimum grade of C+ can apply for degree courses. Tuko But it’s not just fresh 2025 candidates — if you sat KCSE in any year going back to 2000 and haven’t yet secured university placement, this window is also for you.
What’s on the Table?
The choices are vast. KUCCPS has listed 42 public universities and the Open University of Kenya, which qualify for both government scholarships and HELB loans. Additionally, 30 private universities are listed and eligible for HELB loans only — but students admitted there will not receive government scholarships. Kenyans.co.ke Choose wisely.
All degree programmes have been uploaded against the 2024 cut-off points, grouped into 20 distinct clusters, each with varying competitiveness based on demand, available slots, and institution capacity. Kenyans.co.ke Before you click anything, check those cut-off points — they are your roadmap.
The New Rules: What Has Changed
KUCCPS didn’t just open a portal — it unveiled a brand new placement framework that changes how choices work. The system now requires applicants to submit up to six choices. Crucially, the first three choices must feature the exact same degree programme but across three different universities — protecting your core career interest. Choices four, five, and six allow you to select alternative courses or entirely different institutions. If you miss your primary choices due to competition, the automated system cascades your profile down to subsequent options. Teacher.co.ke
Gone are the days of manual cluster point calculations. A central pillar of the new criteria is the total automation of the cluster point calculation system — candidates will no longer need to manually compute their subject weights. Teacher.co.ke The system does it for you. No more maths anxiety over your own eligibility.
