Vocational training centres, colleges and universities in Kenya offer different TVET courses designed to prepare students for the job market.
In recent past, a good percentage of students who meet university entry requirements have been opting for TVET courses over degree programs.
This shift can be accredited to high absorption of TVET graduates in the job market, practical based education, specialized programs and hands on learning environment.

The following are the list of courses and the requirements to pursue TVET education in Kenya.

These are the requirements that one has to meet in order to study various TVET programs in Kenya.
KCPE/KCSE certificate for artisan courses
Regardless of the grade scored in either KCPE or KCSE, one can pursue selected artisan courses in various institutions as long as they have either of the aforementioned certificates.
In some courses, all one needs is a KCPE certificate, while some may require both.
Mean grade D plain for certificate courses
To pursue a certificate course in a TVE institutions, one should have scored at least D plain in their KCSE. Some certificate courses require only a KCPE/KCSE certificate irregardless of the grade/points.
If not sure of a certificate course entry requirement, it’s advisable to confirm with the institution that one wants to join.
Mean grade C- (minus) for diploma courses.
Almost all diploma courses require prospective students to have a mean grade of C- (minus) and above in their KCSE. However, some courses i.e medical related courses require a candidate to have scored a C minus. Beside this, one has to meet the minimum subject’s requirement.
Kindly note that the minimum entry requirements also vary depending with the institution. Therefore, before making an application, it’s important to inquire from the institution that one wants to enrol in.
Students who had previously pursued certificate courses can upgrade to diploma.
Respective diploma for higher diploma courses
To be enrolled for a higher diploma, one needs to have graduated with a diploma in field the same field or any closely related filed.
After choosing a TVET institution, one is advised to go through the list of TVET courses offered in the institution checking if they meet the minimum entry requirements.
