Education Chief Administrative Secretary Sara Ruto says that the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) focuses more on students’ capabilities.
She said that Competency-Based Assessment, Education, and teacher training are all geared toward developing the abilities and potential of learners.
“The access, equity, and relevance will continue to guide principles for education policy, curricula, and standards,” Ruto said.
She said the Ministry of Education has committed to focusing on the potential of learners in its policy initiatives.
She was speaking at Jogoo House on Monday during a courtesy visit from Charles North, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).
North said that the Global Partnership for Education was impressed with what the government of Kenya was doing in education.
He lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for being a great champion of quality Education and for jointly hosting the Global Education Summit with United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
“The summit helped to raise a record 4 billion dollars from donors for the GPE for Finance GPE 2021-2025 under the campaign “Raise Your Hand” financing campaign,” North said.
Early Learning and Basic Education PS Julius Jwan said that the Government was enhancing the ability to assess learners digitally.
He said the Government was upgrading training programs for teachers who had had PI training but had not been employed.
“The government has also integrated ICT in the training to ensure teachers coming from colleges have the technical capacity to integrate ICT in teaching and learning,” Jwan said.
Present during the occasion were the Regional Manager for Eastern and Southern Africa, Fazte Rabbani, GPE Regional Partnership Leader Africa and Asian Pacific, Victoria Egbetatayo, the National Coordinator of GPE Projects in Kenya, Martha Ekirapa, among other senior education officials.
